Beware of Motorcycle Theft: Cirebon City Police Catch Thief of Rp40 Million Automatic Vespa, Plus Extra Security Tips from Cover SMC
Cirebon City Police Uncover Rp40 Million Automatic Vespa Theft: A Lesson in the Importance of Extra Security
Cirebon City Police have shown success in cracking down on motor vehicle theft in their jurisdiction. Police arrested two suspects, a couple in an unregistered (siri) marriage with the initials SS (27) and YK (22), residents of Cirebon City, in connection with the theft of a resident's automatic Vespa motorcycle in Kedawung, Cirebon Regency. The vehicle, valued at around Rp40 million, was sold by the suspects in Indramayu Regency at a relatively cheap price of only Rp3 million. The case was uncovered after officers traced closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and carefully identified the movements of both offenders.
Cirebon City Police Chief AKBP Bimantoro Kurniawan said his team had secured the buyer of the stolen goods along with the motorcycle as evidence. “The two suspects had different roles. SS acted as the executor who took the motorcycle, while YK watched the situation and drove the main offender away,” the police chief explained on Tuesday, 20 October 2026. According to the examination, both suspects deliberately targeted vehicles parked in poorly monitored places without double security. The automatic Vespa was stolen on the afternoon of Sunday, 18 October 2026, before being recovered by the police.
The rise in vehicle theft incidents is a valuable reminder for every motorcycle owner, especially Vespa riders, to stay alert. Parking spots without adequate supervision are often easy targets for criminals who look for owners' carelessness. Applying layered protection is therefore a crucial step to minimise the risk of losing your beloved vehicle when you leave it.
To keep vehicles safe from the threat of theft, COVER SMC shares several effective extra security tips for your Vespa:
Use a double lock: Fit a dedicated padlock on the front disc brake or a security chain on the rear wheel.
Lock the handlebars to the right: Turn the handlebars to the right to limit the thief's room to work when breaking the ignition lock.
Make use of built-in security features: Make sure the immobilizer system or the key chip always works normally, and avoid keeping a spare key in the storage compartment.
Fit a GPS tracker: Hide a GPS tracking device so the bike's position can be monitored in real time from your phone.
Use a motorcycle cover: Covering your Vespa with a quality cover from Cover SMC makes the bike less conspicuous and slows down a thief, who needs extra time to uncover it.
Park in a safe place: Always choose an official parking area monitored by CCTV or use a securely locked home garage.
